NOTICE IN TERMS OF REGULATION 19(1) OF THE REGULATIONS REGARDING LICENSING PROCEDURES FOR TELECOMMUNICATIONS AND BROADCASTING SERVICE LICENCES: COMMUNICATIONS ACT, 2009

The Communications Regulatory Authority of Namibia, in terms of regulation 19(1) of the Regulations regarding Licensing Procedures for Telecommunications and Broadcasting Service Licences, published in Government Gazette No. 4785, as General Notice. 272, on 29 August 2011 (as amended), hereby gives notice of the following decisions:

1. Telecommunications Service Licences

  • (a) The Authority resolved to award a Class Comprehensive Telecommunications Service Licence (ECS and ECNS) to SATELIO TELEVISION (PTY) LTD.
  • (b) The Authority resolved to award a Class Comprehensive Telecommunications Service Licence (ECS and ECNS) to CANOPUS TECHNOLOGIES.
  • (c) The Authority resolved to award a Class Non-profit ECNS/ECS Telecommunications Service Licence to MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION .
  • (d) The Authority resolved to approve an additional extension to ONGOS CONNECT (PTY) LTD to commence utilisation of its Telecommunications Service Licence for a period of 6 (six) months, from 18 April to 17 October 2024.

2. Broadcasting Service Licences

  • (a) The Authority resolved to decline the award of a Community Broadcasting Service Licence to YACISA RADIO STATION CC for the provision of FM broadcasting services in the geographical area of Katima Mulilo.
  • (b) The Authority resolved to award a Community Broadcasting Service Licence to the INTERNATIONAL UNIVERSITY OF MANAGEMENT for the provision of FM broadcasting services in the geographical area of Windhoek.
  • (c) The Authority resolved to approve the renewal of the Community Broadcasting Service Licence of NAMCOL .
  • (d) The Authority resolved to approve the renewal of the Commercial Broadcasting Service Licence of JOHN WALENGA T/A EAGLE FM .

3. Spectrum Licences

  • (a) The Authority resolved to award a Spectrum Licence for the provision of Earth

Exploration Satellite services to MINISTRY OF HIGHER EDUCATION, TECHNOLOGY, AND INNOVATION as set out hereunder ̶

In terms of section 31 of the Communications Act, 2009 (Act No. 8 of 2009), the Authority may, on its own motion or on a petition filed by an aggrieved party to any proceedings, reconsider any order or decision that it has made, within 90 days of this notice.
